Nebelung

Overview

The Nebelung is a rare, elegant longhaired breed developed from Russian Blue stock, with a shimmering blue-gray coat, vivid green eyes and a reserved but devoted temperament. Its name means “creature of the mist”.

History & Origin

Created in the United States in the 1980s by breeding long-haired Russian Blue-type cats, the Nebelung was developed to preserve the Russian Blue's colour in a longer, plush coat.

Appearance & Coat

A medium-sized, fine-boned cat with a long body, large ears and a medium-long dense coat of even blue with silver tipping, plus green eyes. The silvery sheen is its signature.

Temperament

Nebelungs are gentle, quiet and shy with strangers but deeply attached to their family. They appreciate routine and a calm home.

Care & Grooming

Weekly brushing keeps the coat luminous. They are low-shedding and thrive indoors with familiar company.

Health & Lifespan

Lifespan is 12–16 years. A rare breed with few known disorders; standard care applies.

Recognition

Recognised by TICA and the CFA.
