Overview

The Singapura is one of the smallest domestic cat breeds, with a sepia-agouti ticked short coat and large expressive eyes. Curious, active and playful, it originated from the street cats of Singapore.

History & Origin

Said to descend from the “drain cats” of Singapore, the breed was developed in the United States in the 1970s from cats brought from the island. It is celebrated as Singapore's national cat.

Appearance & Coat

A petite, delicate cat with a rounded head, large eyes and ears, and a short ivory-agouti coat with dark ticking (“sepia agouti”). Despite its small size it is surprisingly sturdy.

Temperament

Singapuras are affectionate, people-oriented and kittenish throughout life. They are lively and inquisitive but gentle, fitting well into families and apartments.

Care & Grooming

The short coat needs minimal grooming. They enjoy climbing and play and do well indoors with companionship.

Health & Lifespan

Lifespan is 12–15 years. A small gene pool means responsible breeding matters; generally a healthy, long-lived little cat.

Recognition

Recognised by TICA, CFA, WCF and the GCCF.
