Overview

A gray-green tree frog with bright white eyes, active at night in lowland forests.

History & Origin

The tree frog (hylid) is native to South America. It belongs to the family Hylidae, a lineage of amphibians distributed across those regions and kept both in the wild and by specialist keepers.

Appearance & Size

White-eyed Tree Frog is a medium (5–7 cm) frog.

Temperament

Active and alert, with readily observable behaviour; the right habitat keeps them engaged.

Care & Husbandry

Hylids are the diverse 'tree frog' family—insectivorous, often arboreal with adhesive toe pads. They need height, foliage, humidity and a steady supply of small insects; species range from beginner-friendly to specialist.

Health & Lifespan

Same as tree frogs—dehydration and skin disease are the main threats; good ventilation and humidity control prevent most problems. In captivity a healthy individual may live around 5–8 years.

Popularity & Recognition

Hylids are the largest frog family and the source of most familiar tree frogs worldwide, from backyard green tree frogs to rainforest canopy species.
