Overview
The Lincheng (Linqing) Lion Cat is a noble longhaired white cat from Linqing, Shandong Province, often with striking odd-coloured eyes (one blue, one yellow) and a thick, flowing coat. Gentle, dignified and highly prized in China, it is a treasured native variety.
History & Origin
Bred for centuries around Linqing, the Lion Cat descends from long-haired cats kept by Chinese nobility and was a favourite tribute cat in imperial times, admired for its lion-like ruff.
Appearance & Coat
A medium-to-large cat with a long, silky pure-white coat, a magnificent neck ruff and plumed tail. The most valued individuals have “yin-yang” odd eyes (one blue, one amber), a trait tied to good fortune.
Temperament
Lion Cats are calm, affectionate and composed, with a refined, almost regal demeanour. They bond with family and are gentle with children.
Care & Grooming
The long white coat needs frequent brushing to avoid mats and stay pristine; indoor living protects the pale fur. Eye care helps the odd-eyed variety.
Health & Lifespan
Lifespan is 12–18 years. White/odd-eyed cats can carry deafness on the blue-eyed side, so hearing should be checked; otherwise healthy.
Recognition
A treasured Chinese native variety (not yet broadly recognised by Western registries).
