Beagle
The cheerful little rabbit hound—big ears, bigger nose, and an inexhaustible friendliness.
Overview. The Beagle is a small scent hound with long ears and a merry nature, originally bred to hunt rabbits in packs.
History & Origin
A very old breed, prized for its voice and nose; today a beloved family pet and (controversially) a research dog.
Appearance & Coat
Compact and sturdy, with a short coat in tricolor or lemon and the classic droopy ears.
Temperament
Happy, curious, and sociable, it is great with children and other dogs but hard to recall off-scent.
Care & Exercise
Needs exercise and routine ear care; a secure yard for its nose.
FCI Recognition
Recognized by the FCI in Group 6 (Scenthounds and Related breeds).
