History & Origin
European Seabass originates from Atlantic & Mediterranean. It has been kept and selectively bred in the aquarium hobby for generations, producing many color forms and regional variants developed through captive breeding.
Appearance & Size
European Seabass is a medium fish, generally measuring about 40–100 cm when fully grown. Its body shape and species-specific coloration make it easy to recognize among Grouper & Bass.
Temperament
European Seabass shows a temperament typical of its group—largely peaceful but with individual or territorial quirks; match it with compatible tankmates and adequate cover.
Care & Husbandry
A marine species best suited to experienced saltwater aquarists, it requires a mature, well-established aquarium with stable salinity (around 1.023–1.025 specific gravity), strong filtration and pristine water quality. Feed a varied diet of high-quality prepared foods supplemented with live or frozen items, and quarantine new arrivals before adding them to the display.
Health & Lifespan
With good water quality and a balanced diet, European Seabass typically lives 15–25 years in captivity. Watch for common aquarium ailments such as parasites, fungal infections and stress-related disease, and maintain stable parameters to keep it thriving.
Popularity & Recognition
