Chinchilla
A Persian type with a shimmering silver-tipped long coat, emerald-green eyes and dark eye-liner; elegant, gentle and quiet.
Overview
The Chinchilla is a Persian type with a shimmering silver-tipped long coat, emerald-green eyes and a dark “eye-liner” outline. Elegant, gentle and quiet, it is prized for its sparkling, pearl-like appearance.
History & Origin
Developed in Britain in the late 19th century from silver tabby Persians, the Chinchilla refined into a cat with white fur tipped in black, creating a glittering silver effect.
Appearance & Coat
A medium-to-large Persian with a broad round head, small ears, large green eyes rimmed in black, and a long white coat tipped with black (or gold/chocolate in variants). The plush ruff completes the look.
Temperament
Chinchillas are calm, affectionate and rather refined in manner, enjoying a peaceful home. They are sociable but not demanding.
Care & Grooming
Daily grooming prevents tangles; the pale coat shows dirt, so indoor living and regular eye care help. High-maintenance beauty.
Health & Lifespan
Lifespan is 12–15 years. Persian-type health watch (PKD, breathing, eyes) applies; tested lines recommended.
Recognition
Recognised by the GCCF and FIFe (as a Persian colour/variety) and TICA.
