Overview
The Javanese is a long-haired Oriental cat in many colours and patterns, with a silky coat and a wedge-shaped head. Extremely social, chatty and intelligent, it demands constant attention.
History & Origin
Developed alongside the Balinese from Oriental/Siamese lines carrying the long-hair gene, the Javanese expresses the Oriental body in non-pointed colours with a flowing coat.
Appearance & Coat
A slender, long-legged cat with a long whip tail, big ears and a fine silky medium-long coat. Colours include red, cream, tortie and tabby varieties; eyes are vivid green.
Temperament
Javanese are outgoing, vocally expressive and deeply attached to people. They are active, clever and need lots of interaction — perfect for engaged owners.
Care & Grooming
Light brushing suffices for the single coat. Their social drive means a feline buddy and daily play keep them content.
Health & Lifespan
Lifespan is 12–16 years. Generally healthy; similar screening to Oriental/Siamese lines advised.
Recognition
Recognised by TICA, CFA and the GCCF.
