Neapolitan Mastiff

The Italian mastiff with cascading wrinkles—a massive, ancient guardian of home and family.

Overview. The Neapolitan Mastiff is a giant Italian guardian distinguished by its heavy, loose wrinkles and formidable, ancient presence.

Descended from Roman war and guard dogs, it was kept in southern Italy to protect property and family.

Enormous and loose-skinned, with a short coat in gray, black, mahogany, or tawny and profound facial folds.

Steady, watchful, and loyal, it is calm at home but a serious deterrent to intruders.

Moderate exercise and wrinkle care; not for novice owners.

Recognized by the FCI in Group 2 (Pinscher and Schnauzer – Molossian type – Swiss Mountain and Cattledogs).
